AMERICORPS VISTA LEADER
Immediate Opening: AmeriCorps VISTA Leader
The Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service (MCVS) is now accepting applications for an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader for the Mississippi Disaster Preparedness and Response Project. If you have successfully completed at least one term as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member and have an interest or experience working in the areas of disaster preparedness and volunteer management, this is an outstanding opportunity to join the leadership team for a statewide, multi-site AmeriCorps VISTA project.
MCVS/AmeriCorps VISTA Leaders mentor, educate and empower members serving at volunteer centers, higher-education institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government offices to ensure successful and high-quality terms of service. Regular activities include assisting potential members in the application process, developing and disseminating resources, coordinating training opportunities, facilitating team-building and other member communications, assisting in the development of new project sites, maintaining project records, and collecting/compiling site reports. MCVS/AmeriCorps VISTA Leaders also have further opportunities for professional growth through contributing meaningfully to other Commission-led projects, based on individual interests, abilities and experience.
Key skills and qualifications include previous AmeriCorps VISTA experience (required); Bachelor’s Degree or higher (strongly preferred); interest or experience in disaster preparedness and response; interest or experience in volunteer generation and management; outstanding oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team; aptitude for peer leadership; excellent organizational skills; willingness to travel, including some overnight; valid driver’s license; and the ability to pass a state and federal background check.
